Mother's Day and the funk

Okay, so I've been in a bit of a funk lately so I haven't posted in awhile. By the way, don't you love the word "funk"? It's just kind of a great word to say and use in a variety of contexts and just talking about the word "funk" puts me in a better mood. I remember thinking sometimes how funny it would be if my last name was Funk. Wouldn't that be great? Amy Funk...I mean you can't say that and not start smiling. Try it with your own name and you'll see what I mean. See? Told you. Anyway, I don't feel like I'm completely out of my funk but it's getting better. This month has been hard with Ella's feedings and for the past week she has been on a feeding strike where she is refusing to take a bottle at all which is very discouraging to me. Brruuutal! I'm tired of thinking about it and don't really feel like going into details but I'll just say that it's been hard. However, I am proud of myself that I haven't broken any more plates in the backyard although one day I was close but Eva was around and I thought that miiigghht not be such a good example of how to handle frustration.

Other than that, things are okay. Everyone is good, Eva is still eating dog food, Ella is still not wanting to eat and Rick and I are just trying to keep each other sane. I say Ella is not wanting to eat but I do have to say that she is doing much better with the baby food thing. Bottle, no, baby food, yes. We try baby food twice a day and she is actually opening her mouth now and taking a couple of bites. This is huge so even though she maybe only eats a tablespoon or two of food a day at least it is something so that is encouraging. Thank you for continuing to pray for Ella in this because we are seeing improvements. Physically she is doing really well also. She is getting so much stronger and is really making some positive progress in her physical therapy so that is exciting as well. She is happy, active and LOUD. The girl has got some pipes I tell ya. She is so sweet and we love her to pieces. Please keep praying for her because things are still very hard and she has a lot to overcome.

Eva, what do I say about Eva? Oh man, she is hilarious. She has started calling me "mom" lately instead of mommy. Seriously? Did we suddenly turn 13? Not ready for that. She has a great sense of humor and we have more fun with her. She loves Ella and is such a little mommy to her.

Just a little train ride for two. Don't they look like they're having the time of their life?

Work it girl!

Son of a gun these boots are hard to walk in.

These are yellow rubber gloves on her feet if you couldn't tell. She walked around with these on for about 30 minutes as if it was completely normal. Note to self, if we ever need feet for a chicken costume these babies will be our go-to.

Eva was in a little spring show at her school and again, by the look on her face you can tell she was having the time of her life folks, time of her life. She did great being on stage, she didn't sing a lick BUT she did do all the motions to the songs and clapped for herself. I kind of teared up I was so proud of her. :)

There is lots more I could update about what all has gone on this month but let's talk about Mother's Day shall we? Sweet Rick and the girls bought me some fun planters and Rick and Eva planted flowers for me for Mother's Day. So sweet! It was great watching them plant together. Actually, Eva moved some dirt around and Rick ended up doing the work which is just classic isn't it? Love it. They spoiled me all weekend, let me sleep, eat whatever I wanted, walk aimlessly around Target by myself for an hour or two and just waited on me hand and foot. Rick is the best husband, he takes such good care of me and I have to say that he does things like this on a daily basis for me not just on special occasions. I am so blessed to have him. Awwww.

Putting in some dirt

Everybody havin' a good time

Whoa...what's going on here? Eva got a bit distracted during the flower planting and decided to engage in some other activities.

Dooby-dooby-doo, what's in here? Any dirt or dog food for me to eat?

Splashing in some dirty water on a nasty piece of cardboard is way more fun than planting flowers.

Oh that's right, flowers for mom, that's what we were doing. Ta-daahh! All done. They look so good! You can't tell in the picture but they planted Mexican Heather which has cute little purple flowers. A good hardy flower. I need a low maintenance plant because I have no green thumb so I need a flower that can basically survive on it's own with little to no help from me. Know what I'm sayin'?

That's all for now, I'll get out of my funk and do better with my updating. Peace.

I love reading your blog Amy...I can hear you saying it all and I laugh outloud. Especially the glove chicken feet. Are we shocked at all that you have a hilarious daughter? Wish I could be with you. If you ever run out of plates, you can come for a visit in Illinois and break some of mine.
Love you

You are so funny. I'm glad you can have such great humor through all this. I guess you have to or you would loss your mind. I'll be praying that the days get easier. I really miss you so much. We need to try to figure out some way to get together and with YCW out soon, Eva needs to come play with us. I love you, sweet friend. Take care and I'll talk to you soon.

My third grade bible class teacher was Mrs. Funk (no lie) and it always made me giggle! However, not so funny when you're in one. I hope things get better and we will be praying that they do. It's amazing how funny you are, even in a funk :)
BTW, Maelie started calling me mom a while back and I told her if she was going to call me by the wrong name, I was going to call her by the wrong name and started calling her George. She thought it was funny, but quickly went back to Mommy :) maybe that will work with sweet Eva

I did have a little laugh when I said my name with "funk". Hee hee. We will be praying that this bottle strike is over soon! Random note - I found some really cute fabric at Hobby Lobby & realized it is what you used on Ella's helmet. It's so cute & funky. :) I am embellishing a shower curtain for the girls bathroom with it, and after reading your post every time I see it from now on I'm going to pray a blessing over your family.

Ann Funk. Yes, has a nice ring to it. Oh Aimes, you are so funny. Eva is a mess! She never ceases to amaze me! Love you and praying for you to revive from the funk...which reminds me of a song "We want the funk! Gotta have that funk! Oh we want the funk, gotta have that funk!". Remember ol' Gerardo? Makes me wanna dance..."Rico....Suave"..... Love it! Now hope that brings you out of the funk! :)
Love you so very much and so proud of all four of you.

What a fab mommy you are and what a sweet man and girls you have! We definitely know funks in this neck of the world....yesterday after church I had a total melt-down cry that came from out of the blue. Remind me to tell you about the story of this socially akward old man at church who made me cry :). All that to say, you are incredibly strong and doing ALL you can for that sweet baby girl~ keep on truck'in and know you are loved! BTW~ now when I leave the house Trav says "please come back" :) Love you guys!!! KJS

Amy - your planters are beautiful. Way to go Rick and girls. Very classy - just like you. Love the pictures. Especially of the girls riding on the toy together. Looks like they are having some serious, out-of-control fun. We pray for you and your sweet family often. I recently dreamed I saw you. I had so much fun visiting with you. ;)

Love you all and praying - Amanda
